This is a warning to all American students. If offered, I strongly recommend not trying a "Salzige Heringe". My Mutti likes it so I was offered one and I promptly spit out (neatly into a tissue, of course). No one else in the family likes it and I didn't either. Yuck!
Anyway, back to Wismar.
We visited the harbor first. It was nice (I need a new word...) and very European, which I like. There were boats that were for touring and also boats that were built to look like old boats.
The buildings are ni... pretty too.
When Lisa came to visit me, she brought pictures of these Swedish heads that were in Wismar. I now have my very own tourist picture with a Swedish head and his mustache!!
Next, we visited the library which is actually in a renovated armory. I checked out Pippi Langstrumpf so I'll have something else to do in class besides attempt to understand super fast German and write down words.
BOWTIE!! NARNIA! EINHORN!!
Oh yeah. So apparently Lisa did not know about my/our love of Einhorns so she was a bit surprised when I spazzed whenever we saw an Einhorn...
I just love the colorful, old brick houses. You don't see these in Indiana, rarely in America.
One of the churches we visited. That was a really tall organ.
Tourists!
Cobblestones.
This is a very important street. It is coffinmaker street. We were laughing because yesterday I learned the word for Grabstein (grave stone) and today, I learned Sargmacher. Kind of morbid.
More pictures of Wismar. In Hungarian I keep thinking of hangulatos to describe Wismar. Google translate says nice, intimate, and atmospheric... Not really but okay. I don't
really know how to describe it in English.
really know how to describe it in English.
Toy store!! Lisa was very excited to see her favorite TV show (not joking at all. She really was.)
Also, PFLASTER!!! Lisa also liked all the tattoos they had. I bought a gift :)
Being completely weird.. er. normal over sparkly things and funny jewelry.
Bookstore! I have to learn the president because Lisa said so but I keep forgetting so I took a picture.
Now comes the very best part of the entire trip...
In this bookstore, they had free stuff out like candy and bags and ...
[Background: In Germany, school lunchboxes are rectangular, plastic boxes and hold bread, yoghurt, fruit, etc. They are called Brotdose.]
THEY HAD FREE BANANADOSEN!!!!
I was..uh.. way more excited about this than a normal person.. but they hold BANANAS!! and it's sooo cool!!!! And in the car, Lisa was telling Mutti how I got one and was really excited about it so she stopped and went in the store to buy bananas just so I could take it to school tomorrow!!! I think that deserves an award for best host mom!!
It's so cool!!
(And if I go back there again and they're still there, I'll get one for you too, Fatima)
And that was my trip to Wismar. It was so much fun and I got the best free gift ever!! Now, I'm excited for tomorrow so I can show my friends my super cool banana case!!!!

I miss Europe already... So glad to see you having so much fun. Looks like the weather is cold a bit.
ReplyDeleteKeep writing about what you have learned auf Deutsch.
Apa
#5: Now you know what I want for my birthday... (PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE BANANA HOLDER!!!) Sorry, I'm done now. The buildings are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIf we go back there and there are still banana holders there, I will bring back one for you. It was made for you. If not, we can always share.
