The Sixth Day

First of all, dear brother who doesn't know that he's not American, learning German/vocabulary IS fun.  And it's funny. One of the first words I learned was Grabstein so now we have a running theme of morbid words like Friedhof, Beerdigung, Sarg, Gefängnis, Revanche and it's funny. So you don't have to be concerned.

My vocab book.

Also, yesterday I mentioned that I introduced Lisa to One Direction but the story of how I did it is kind of entertaining and so I will tell it. Dedicated to my friends who are married to them. I think this conversation was in German but I translated it for convenience.
Janka: Did you know that some people are afraid of spoons?
Lisa: (weird face)
Janka: Yeah. One of the guys in One Direction.
Lisa: What?
Janka: You don't know One Direction? They are super popular in America. And they were on the radio here.
Lisa: No.
Janka then proceeded to youtube "one direction spoon" and show Lisa the music videos for "One Thing" andn "What Makes You Beautiful"
Madi, Logan, and Kaitlin, I hope you were entertained.

Anyway. Today was also a fun day. The weekend. I woke up around 8:44 when Lisa woke me up, we had breakfast, and then left our house in a car.

OH. MEINE. GUTE. A TREE. I AM AMAZED.

We went to see a beautiful and huge church in Bad Doberan.
It. Was. Gorgeous. I thought the church in Neukloster yesterday way beautiful, this was so much more extravagant and detailed.

So detailed and gorgeous. And huge.

I was impressed by the organ in Neukloster but this one was even bigger. It had 3220 little pipes. Too bad I didn't get to hear it.

Hello. I am an American tourist.

Thought of Kaitlin. If she had been with us, this swan would have gotten a kiss.

The door.

Outside the church.

Lisa said Hanf is marijuana. Yup. This was randomly in a store. Don't worry. I didn't buy it.

Next, we went on the Molli. It's a train that goes from the the town to another place through the countryside and past the sea and houses. It was late. Because Germans aren't punctual and it's old.

While we waited, Lisa showed off her bag that she got in Wismar when went there the other day.

Then, it arrived. So we got on.

We're so beautiful.

 Scenery.

Her mom also bought us these from a bakery. Lisa said these were the best she's ever eaten of this. She kept going on about how amazing it was. It was good.

Lisa was telling her mom how to work the camera because it's slow. I think my camera is a senior citizen in camera years.

The train was fun but I kept falling asleep and waking up because I was tired and it lulled me to sleep.

Then we went to the beach. And we saw those chair thingies that Lisa had in her presentation last year.

I'm Germany's next top hippie model.

The sand was warm and we went in the water and it was cold but super fun.

Then we had to go home because Lisa was reciting a poem with Lena at gradutation. In the car, I helped her practice twice by reading Lena's part. Lisa wrote the poem too.

The poem is a conversation between a teacher and a student and Lisa was the teacher.

Stalking the 12th graders and critiquing what they wore. (Taken from our car window)

The room was full. There were 44 students graduating and only the parents could come. There were musical performances from the other classes/grades.

Wiebke! She looked really pretty. One of the best dressed. There were also two bow ties. :)

Lisa and Lena. They did a perfect job even though Lisa was super nervous before and the poem was two whole pages long. The room also has great acoustics because even though I sat in the very very back I heard them very well.

The graduation was very nice even though I was a little bored because I didn't understand the speeches. Gradutation here is so much nicer because it's a smaller class so it's way more personal. Plus they were together for 8, some even 12 years so everyone knows everyone. I'm glad I got to go. Herr G was there too.

Then we drove on the Autobahn so Vati could show off how fast the Germans drive. SUPERSCHNELL! Also, we saw three German ambulances today.

We arrived in Wismar. And went to an ice cream place.

 SPAGHETTIEIS!
We're going to have these in Berlin. They're every German American student's dream to eat when they come to Germany.

I ordered a lot of ice cream.

Parents and ice cream.

It was pineapple. But they didn't have any pineapple ice cream so I think they put lemony stuff in it instead. We hoped that they didn't put alcohol in it because that's against the rules. Lisa told me all the alcohol sundaes so I wouldn't accidentally order one.

That's a little strawberry ice cream man. I told Lisa to order it.

Also, I ate my ice cream the fastest. Even Lisa was slower. Awkward.

Then we drove home and the radio played a song where even Lisa didn't understand the lyrics. But Vati explained that the main word was ALKOHOL. So we danced. Kind of. To a song about alcohol.. Then Mutti's favorite song played. So we stayed in the car until it finished. Then we ate peas in the garden because I think Lisa would eat them all day if she could. Then we went inside.

Oh and today was my German parents anniversary. 22 years. Also, I was adopted today. My new name is Janka Petra "Orange Hippie Cheeky Monkey" Dammann. But don't worry, real family. Just like you can have dual citizenship you can have dual adopt...adoptionship. Yup. Good night!!
